Panels

Running A Panel

If you are interested in running your own panel or workshop, email the Panels Coordinator (panels@animeusa.org) with the following:

  • Main contact for the panel/workshop. Please use your real name for a contact, while you do not have to use your real name for the panel itself, we do need this information for contact purposes.
  • Name and a brief summary of your panel. If possible, try to present a paragraph that we may be able to use in the program book.
  • What time slot/day you would prefer. We cannot promise you a definite timeslot, but we will work to get you as close as possible to your requested time.
  • How long the panel would be. Panels run for approximately 90 minutes, while workshops are scheduled for three hours. In the case of long panels, we can break them into two-part sessions of 90 minutes each.
  • Panelist names and ages. [1] Again, please furnish real names for information purposes.
  • How much room the panel will take up. This is necessary for safety planning. Please be aware that all of our panel rooms this year are the same size (approximately double the length of last year's small panel rooms, but the same width), so if you are planning an event that needs a lot of "wandering space" (i.e., kendo demonstrations), please let us know, so that we may make arrangements to move your panel to Live Events Stage 2 if so needed.
  • Support you may need. Examples would be projectors for use with laptops, stereo for audio, TV/VCR/DVD cart, etc.
  • If the panel is an "Otaku Blue" panel.[1]

Panels we are particularly interested in right now (as in, if you have the knowledge, drop us a line!)

  • any panel you find interesting and wish to moderate

The final date for submission of panels requiring AV, internet, or other technical support is October 12, 2007. The final date for any panels requiring logistical support (pads for art, pens and paper for drawing, etc.) is October 19, 2007. The final date for submission of panels requiring no support is October 26, 2007. All panels after that will be considered on a case-by-case basis.

[1] Otaku Blue panels are panels that target a mature audience (18 and above). Due to age requirements for these panels, we will need to know ahead of time so that we can plan to have security personnel present for ID checks. No panelist can be under the age of 18 for an Otaku Blue panel.
